Chazney Jacobs was South Africa’s entrant in the recent WorldSkills competition held in Helsinki, Finland.
Says Feroza Fakir, Deputy National Expert SA Beauty: “WorldSkills takes place every two years and the 2022 event was supposed to take place in China in June, but they pulled out as host due to their hard Covid lockdown. So, for the first time in WorldSkills history, different countries hosted the different skills sectors, with Hairdressing, Beauty & Fashion hosted by Finland.
“Our WorldSkills entrant was Chazney Jacobs, who was accompanied by the official expert, Lerina Bosch.”
Fakir explains the selection process to identify the South African candidate. “The DHET (Department of Higher Education) puts out an advert to FET (Further Education and Training) colleges to encourage them to submit entrants. This then goes to the DHET for selection criteria and from that there is a National Competition, with three entrants emerging from that, and Chazney Jacobs was the winner. I took over the role of making sure she was trained and prepared for the competition and provided three months of intensive training.
“Thank you to the phenomenal ladies of wisdom who helped us prepare for the competition. It was an honour and privilege to have been moving in a circle of women of this calibre who gave Chazney so much encouragement, motivation and determination to go and participate at an international level.”
