SA govt’s new draft law for fitness industry

The setting up of a Fitness Industry Regulatory Authority by the Minister of Sport is one of the proposals contained in a new draft law for the fitness industry.

Business Insider reports that this authority would act as an umbrella body for other ‘fitness controlling bodies’ and directly register establishments and fitness professionals. This Authority would also have the power to suspend fitness professionals and close down gyms.

Furthermore, it would have the right to conduct inspections of gyms to check safety standards and compliance with ‘applicable law’.
