No surprise to see that Issa Rae, who plays President Barbie in the live action ‘Barbie’ movie, opted to wear pink nails for the recent world premiere in Los Angeles.
Celebrity manicurist Eri Ishizu created an alternative French manicure for Rae, writing on her Instagram page: “Issa has been in the mood for pink! We wanted to have fun with the nail look for the ‘Barbie’ world premiere, so we decided on using different pink shades. Using the signature colour and embracing the playfulness of Barbie, I put a spin on the regular French mani, creating an abstract version.” The nail set toned in with Rae’s hot pink gown.
And of course the titular star of the movie, Margot Robbie, opted for a sparkly, custom- mixed-pink set of nails of modest length, designed by celebrity MANicurist, Tom Bachik. However, said nails were covered on the pink carpet by a pair of elegant, opera gloves to match Robbie’s strapless black gown, a copy of the outfit worn by the ‘Solo In The Spotlight’ Barbie doll of the 1960s.
Hollywood stylist Ashlie Johnson did a set of subtly glittery nails for ‘Barbie’ director, Greta Gerwig. On Johnson’s Instagram page it says: “We also added pink and clear crystals on top for a little extra Barbie bling! Greta wanted sparkly disco ball nails to celebrate the premiere and these totally shine as bright as she does.”
For British singer Dua Lipa, Kim Truong created a short classic French manicure, albeit with a very pink base. Truong wrote on her Instagram pages: “We wanted to create a stunning two-tone French manicure for Dua Lipa, capturing the essence of Barbie. Using OPI Nail Lacquer in ‘Hi Barbie!’ as the pink base and ‘Alpine Snow’ on the tips, we achieved a striking contrast. With Dua's elegant clear rhinestone dress, our goal was to bring the ultimate pop of Barbie pink to her look.”
Nicki Minaj, who collaborated with fellow rapper Ice Spice on one of the songs on the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack, rocked super long stiletto nails, with all manner of 3D details on them. (Report by Joanna Sterkowicz)
