On 18 July, Dermalogica South Africa launched the AGE bright clearing serum and AGE bright spot fader, both of which target adult acne and reduce signs of premature skin ageing.
These two new products, which can be layered for maximum results, or used separately to address a specific concern, are part of Dermalogica’s redesigned mediBac range, now called Active Clearing.
At a launch held at the Dermalogica Concept Store in Sandton City, training specialist, Angelique Jacklin, said: “More people are experiencing chronic stress and adult acne than ever before. This is because across the globe, the modern pace of life has increased dramatically yet the body’s biochemistry has not changed much since the Stone Age. The resulting chronic stress and hormonal imbalances, combined with environmental shifts and our busy lifestyles, are causing more breakouts and accelerated signs of skin ageing. Adult acne is particularly prevalent in adult women, who face rising social economic pressures to work outside the home while growing and maintaining a functioning household.

Jacklin noted that the AGE bright clearing serum clears away breakouts while brightening skin to reduce signs of premature ageing. ”It contains salicylic acid, as well as phytoactives from the resurrection plant, known for its ability to survive extreme dehydration. Niacinamide works together with white shitake mushroom to promote brighter, more even skin tone. This product is also formulated with the trademarked AGE Bright Complex that works with the skin’s natural microbiome for clearer, brighter skin.
“We describe AGE bright spot fader as a two-in-one brightening spot treatment, as it helps to reduce the appearance of active breakouts and the marks they leave behind. It contains salicylic acid to help clear breakouts, while niacinamide and resorcinol work synergistically to fade post breakout marks, improving uneven skin tome. AGE Bright Complex reduces visible skin ageing and helps prevent over-drying,” she explained.
