Women's Day special for WSW Convention

Updated: Aug 8, 2019

To celebrate Women’s Day, the World Spa & Wellness (WSW) Convention, which takes place on 1& 2 September Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, is offering a two-day pass for just R700.

This offer ends on Monday, 11 September. The WSW Convention features top speakers discussing the hottest issues in the industry and runs alongside the Professional Beauty Johannesburg Expo, the biggest trade event of its kind in Africa.

Latest speakers to be confirmed for the WSW Convention include growth hacker, Johan Mouton, actress/ communications specialist, Gabriella Cirillo, spa coach, Tarryn Sacher, spa owner, Ayesha Rajah, and business entrepreneur, Melloney Rijnvis. The latter three speakers are on the ‘Tech Talk’ panel and will discuss the pros and cons of utilising digital technologies to enhance the spa guest’s wellbeing.

Both Cirillo and Mouton will join Channel Reach’s Keshantha Naidoo and The Spa Consultants’ Marisa Dimitriadis on the ‘Digital Snacking’ session, which will unpack how to create compelling online content for your spa’s target market.

In addition to presenting the keynote address on the latest international trends and how they relate to the African market, Singapore-based Melinda Yon of Six Senses Hotels Resorts will chair the ‘Charting Your Way Through The Spa Obstacle Course’ panel, where she will be joined by Salochanee Reddy of The EQuilibrium Wellbeing Centre, Marion Von Maltzahn of Ciana Day Spa & Wellness Centre in Swakopmund, and Nuncia Pereira from The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. This panel will look at the biggest challenges facing the spa industry today and how to overcome them.

With the proliferation of spas in the market today, it’s important to have your spa stand out in terms of offering unique and innovative treatments. The ‘Spa Menu Engineering’ panel will look at how to create enticing treatments. Speakers are: Joelle Jennepy, regional director of Spa, Four Seasons Resort Mauritius; Hildegard Carstens of Delaire Graff Lodges & Spa, and the Saxon Spa’s’ Tanya Lopes.

As the concept of wellness has infiltrated the global spa sector, the ‘360° Wellness’ panel includes a presentation by James Blower of Matrix Fitness, as well as nutrition specialist Madaleine Helm talking about the importance of the gut microbiome. In addition, Karen Turis of the Oxford Healthcare Retreat will speak on mindfulness.

An often overlooked topic is the lack of communication between spas and hotels in terms of marketing spa services and cross-promotion. This will be addressed in the ‘Two-Way Transmission’ session by Francisco Garcia from the Jiva Spa at TAJ Hotel Cape Town.

The all-important topics of revenue generation and yielding will be covered by Cecilia McKay from African Pride Irene Country Lodge, Autograph Collection, and The Spa Consultants’ Marisa Dimitriadis respectively.
