South Africa’s Dr Ayanda Motau has been appointed by L’Oreal Paris to be its first ever Sub-Saharan dermatologist.
Dr Motau will represent the Sub-Saharan region on the L’Oreal Paris International Board of Dermatologists.
Says the L’Oréal team: “We understand that there is no ‘one-fits-all’ approach when it comes to beauty on the African continent. Our mission is to offer women and men in Africa the best of cosmetics innovation in terms of quality, efficacy and safety because at L’Oréal, beauty is a science, a language and even a commitment. Our partnership with Dr Motau represents a significant step towards this strategic mission.”
L’Oréal believes this new partnership will give a voice to the international community regarding skin concerns for consumers in Sub-Saharan Africa and it will provide an opportunity to bring skincare education to the African market. The brand plans to collaborate with Dr Motau mainly to educate consumers about actives and serums.

A seasoned specialist dermatologist who is well-qualified and experienced in dealing with all dermatological conditions, Dr Motau has a passion for both pediatric and adult medical dermatology.
She has completed her Master's Degree in Medicine (Dermatology), having obtained her MBChB degree at the University of KwaZulu Natal. Dr Motau then completed her specialist training in Dermatology at the University of Witwatersrand, where she obtained her fellowship in Dermatology- FC Derm (SA).
After working for several years in one of Africa's busiest public hospitals, Dr Motau moved into the private sector. Her primary focus is on managing and preventing skin cancers, inflammatory pigmentation conditions such as eczema and lupus, and procedural dermatology.
