Twelve Apostles Spa resumes operations following fire 23 October 2017   Operations at the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa in Camps Bay, Cape Town, resumed on Monday, 16 October, following a fire that flared up on the slopes above Victoria Road and threatened to encroach on the property. Twelve Apostles general manager, Michael Nel, told Professional Beauty that it was decided to evacuate the property at 7pm on Thursday, 12 October, for the safety of guests and staff. There were no guests in the spa at the time of the evacuation. Says Nel: “Thankfully, there is no fire damage to the hotel and spa, except for ash and soot, as well as smoke damage. Our contracted cleaning company worked 24 hours a day for three days on the initial cleaning of the hotel, and a further 30 specialised cleaners have been commissioned. In addition, the outside of the building is due to be washed and the clean- up is expected to continue for number of weeks.” Staff were allowed back into the spa the day after the evacuation, on Friday, 13 October. Nel continues: “A situation like this is always traumatic for staff and guests alike, but the hotel emergency call to action is a high training priority for us. Our emergency systems and procedures are continuously updated and refreshed to ensure all staff on property is well equipped and trained to handle all eventualities.” The cause of the fire is being investigated.
