Beauty industry’s brave new world 15 January 2018 Digitalisation, along with individualisation, will be key factors in the future of beauty, according to Jean-Paul Agon, CEO of global cosmetics giant, L’Oreal. Agon’s view emerged during an interview on the CNBC television news channel in mid-January, where he spoke about his optimism regarding digital, stating that L’Oreal had identified ‘the digital tsunami’ a decade ago already. According to Agon, CNBC had transformed itself over the past five to 10 years in terms of digital. He expressed his optimism about what technology can bring to L’Oreal and said that the beauty industry will, in the future, be more about technology, quality, formulation and responding to specific needs of consumers. L’Oreal recently launched a number of products that are customizable to consumers’ tastes, such as a Lancome foundation which features technology that precisely matches the make-up to the customer’s skin tone, as well as Makeup Genius, a virtual make-up tester app. (Information sourced from Tania Bryer’s article on www.cnbc.com posted on 12 Jan 2018)
